The Walt Disney Company has recently posted a job advertisement and is looking to hire an experienced corporate lawyer to work on transactions involving emerging Web3 technologies, including NFTs, blockchain, metaverse, and decentralized finance (DeFi).
Despite a crypto downturn, global companies are betting big on Web 3 technologies. Even the global financial predicament is unable to deter multi-billion dollar companies to embark on the coveted Web3 journey. Recently, racing giant, Formula One, announced that it has registered NFT and virtual reality (metaverse) trademarks for the Las Vegas Strip Circuit, expected to take place in November 2023.
Job Based on NFT and Crypto
According to a recent job posting on the official Disney website, its Legal Department’s Corporate Transactions Group is looking to hire a “Principal Counsel — Corporate Transactions, Emerging Technologies & NFTs”. The job responsibilities will entail providing full product life cycle legal advice and support for global non-fungible token (NFT) products. The recruit is expected to provide daily legal advice to the company’s legal and business teams on NFT and cryptocurrency-related issues.
It will also include assisting in performing due diligence for NFT, blockchain, third-party marketplace, and cloud provider projects, and negotiating and drafting complex agreements for those projects. The enrollment will also require the employee to ensure NFT product compliance with applicable U.S. and international laws and regulations.
The eligibility criteria for the role seeks an attorney who has 5-8 years minimum experience managing and running complex corporate transactions and experience at a large multinational law firm with an internationally recognized corporate practice.
Disney is Delving Deeper Into the Metaverse
In July, Disney revealed the participants of its “2022 Disney Accelerator program” aimed at supporting technology and entertainment startups. The entertainment juggernaut selected blockchain firm, Polygon, as one of the six companies to participate in the Accelerator Program to develop Web 3 technologies including augmented reality (AR), non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and artificial intelligence (AI).

Earlier this year, Disney was granted a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office to create a real-world theme park where users will experience a 3D virtual world, using simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM). As per reports, guests will be able to see holograms, projected onto 3D objects of their favorite Disney stars, artwork, or information, creating a highly immersive but personalized experience.
