Cardano developer Input Output HK (IOHK) has announced another network parameter update on the Cardano network as part of its scaling plans for 2022.

In a series of tweets on Tuesday, March 22, the official Twitter handle of Input Output HK (IOHK) announced that the team had implemented an update proposal, which was submitted before the weekend, that would increase per-block Plutus script memory units limit from 56M to 62M.

The tweet reads:

“PARAMETER UPDATE: Today, an update proposal (submitted before the weekend) will trigger an increase in per-block #Plutus script memory units limit from 56M > 62M. This change will take effect on #Cardano mainnet at epoch boundary 328 today, 21 March at UTC 21:44:51.”

Cardano Scaling Plans For 2022

In January 2022, Input Output announced its plans to bring a series of optimizations and increases to the Cardano network capacity to cope with upcoming demand. All these network parameter updates and optimizations are the part Cardano roadmap’s Basho era that focuses on optimization, improving the scalability and interoperability of the network.

As Crypto Economy announced, as part of the plan, the first network upgrade came in February in which Cardano blockchain protocol saw its block size increased by 8KB, from 72KB to 80KB. This network parameter upgrade also increased the number of Plutus script memory units per transaction on the Cardano mainnet from 12.5M to 14M.

In subsequent network upgrades, Plutus, a smart contract platform of the Cardano blockchain that allows to write applications that interact with the Cardano blockchain, was further optimized to support script memory units of 56M. In the latest network optimization, Plutus script memory units limit has been increased by 6M to 62M that will provide additional resources for Plutus scripts to improve the DApp user experience while increasing overall network capacity.

Now the upgrade is complete, the Input Output team said that it would carefully monitor the network for at least five day, the duration of an epoch.

According to Input Output, these network optimizations and the subsequent ones are needed as the Cardano network is experiencing phenomenal growth. The Cardano team expects the arrival of many new DeFi and NFT projects in the coming weeks and months and therefore, the Cardano protocol is expected to have many more upgrades in 2022.

Input Output concluded:

“#Cardano is one of the world’s most decentralized blockchains built for correctness & security. As the ecosystem grows, we’re now focused on delivering the scaling phase of its roadmap; improving speed and network capacity while maintaining security and decentralization.”
