BitTorrent [BTT] Enters DeFi Space, Also Surpasses Two 2 Billion Installations

Justin Sun-owned BitTorrent, the leading company in peer-to-peer protocols and products, has now entered the DeFi space through its alliance with JUST, a TRX-based lending platform launched by Poloniex.

BitTorrent’s Twitter handle announced the news on Tuesday, August 11th. With this alliance, BitTorrent token $BTT will also be used as collateral on the JUST CDP portal to mint JUST stablecoin USDJ. The announcement reads:

“$BTT becomes JUST-designated staking asset, which is an important milestone for BitTorrent to enter the field of Defi! Now BitTorrent has reached a strategic alliance with DeFi JUST to build best Defi projects on TRON.”

Justin Sun is also enjoying another great news from BitTorrent. According to a recent announcement, BitTorrent’s popular torrent client software on Windows, Mac, and Android has surpassed 2 billion installations. In his tweet, Sun said that their next milestone was to have 7 million users on this platform. JUST platform will also benefit from this milestone as it will bring 2 billion BitTorrent users to JUST.

The company credits the milestone to its Classic desktop torrent clients, as well as its new Web-based torrent downloader and player built for the streaming age. To celebrate the achievement, the company is offering 30% off all Windows Pro products for a limited time.

BitTorrent, founded in 2004, is one of the most popular peer-based technology company, acquired by the Tron Foundation in July of 2025 in a deal worth $126 million. The standout element of BitTorrent’s evolution is BitTorrent File System (BTFS), a decentralized file storage system built for web3. BTFS was launched in June 2020 with a new mining model. This mining model is called the IPFS model and has a mixed consensus mechanism that uses Proof-of-Replication with Proof-of-Spacetime.
