TL;DR:

  • El Vecino processes approximately 25,000 monthly transactions, representing around $70 million annually in financial services.
  • The US-Mexico remittance corridor moved over $62 billion during 2024.
  • The new service will start with a pilot test for 20,000 users before expanding to 800,000 people through the RISE network.

The Movement network formed a strategic alliance with US company El Vecino and digital wallet provider RISE to enable a WhatsApp remittance system backed by digital dollars.

With this partnership, sending money from the United States to Mexico undergoes a complete transformation, allowing users to initiate transactions directly from the popular messaging app without opening a bank account or downloading extra software.

Technological Infrastructure for the World’s Largest Corridor

The US-Mexico transfer corridor stands as the highest-volume route globally. Data presented by Movement indicates that this corridor moved over $62 billion throughout 2024. Traditionally, operations in this market have depended on face-to-face cash handling and settlements that can take several days to clear.

The new architecture removes mandatory physical participation at the origin point. Through this system, funds settle within seconds using stablecoins and regulated payment rails. Recipients in Mexico can receive funds directly into their bank accounts via the SPEI system or withdraw cash at major retail locations like OXXO and Circle K.

Operational Integration and Projected Reach

Each involved entity supplies a specific component within the cross-border value chain.

El Vecino brings over 18 years of experience operating money transfer services from New Jersey. According to company figures, its current operation handles nearly 25,000 monthly transactions, equivalent to $70 million per year. Transfers to Mexico account for roughly 85% of that transactional volume. RISE integrates the wallet interface and Latin American distribution network, while Movement supplies regulated payment infrastructure alongside fiat-to-crypto conversion rails.

The rollout will follow phased stages to evaluate service adoption. The initial phase starts as a pilot test targeting El Vecino’s existing base of 20,000 direct customers. The organizations then project scaling reach through RISE’s regional infrastructure to cover a potential audience of 800,000 users. According to the roadmap, the operational model plans to expand into other high-demand Central American corridors, including Guatemala and El Salvador.

Company representatives noted that this setup shows how traditional intermediaries can modernize platforms without building custom blockchains. The firms stated that using stable assets maintains security within a strict regulatory framework while integrating smoothly into the everyday habits of migrant communities.

The pilot phase launch will progressively open the WhatsApp channel for registered New Jersey users over the current quarter.
